"I was stuck in a mid-level analyst role for six years. Fourteen weeks into the programme, I led a data strategy project that earned me a senior position and a 38% salary increase."
— Orla Brennan, Senior Data Strategist, Dublin · Cohort 2024
Orla had spent six years as a business analyst at a mid-size financial services firm in Dublin. She held a degree in economics and had completed several free online tutorials, but none translated into tangible career movement. Her manager praised her work ethic yet consistently passed her over for strategic roles, citing a lack of demonstrated expertise in modern data frameworks.
She needed more than a certificate on a wall. She needed a structured programme that would force her to build something real — a portfolio-grade project — under expert guidance, with accountability baked in.
Orla evaluated five providers before settling on Course Knowledge Network. Two factors tipped the scale: the cohort-based accountability model and the capstone requirement. Unlike self-paced platforms, every participant in a CKN programme works through the same material on the same timeline, with weekly peer reviews and live instructor sessions.
The programme Orla enrolled in — Applied Data Strategy — spans 14 weeks across three phases. Below is the module map she completed:
| Week | Module | Type |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | Foundations of Data-Driven Decision Making | Core |
| 3–4 | Exploratory Analysis & Visual Storytelling | Core |
| 5–6 | Statistical Modelling for Business Contexts | Core |
| 7–8 | Machine Learning Essentials (or) Advanced SQL | Elective |
| 9–10 | Data Governance & Ethics Frameworks | Core |
| 11–12 | Strategy Communication & Stakeholder Alignment | Core |
| 13–14 | Capstone: Live Data Strategy Project | Capstone |
Each module includes pre-recorded lectures, a live workshop, a peer review assignment, and a graded deliverable. The capstone project is reviewed by an external industry panel, not just the instructor.
Weeks 1–4: Orla described the opening phase as "humbling." The foundations module challenged assumptions she'd carried for years about how organisations actually use data. The visual storytelling module forced her to rebuild three dashboards she'd previously considered finished.
Weeks 5–8: The statistical modelling core gave her a framework she immediately applied at work, flagging a revenue leakage pattern her team had missed. She chose the Machine Learning elective, which she later called "the hardest two weeks of my career — and the most rewarding."
Weeks 9–12: Governance and ethics felt abstract at first, but Orla's capstone project — a data strategy proposal for her own employer — required a full compliance section. The stakeholder alignment module taught her to present findings to non-technical executives, a skill she credits for her eventual promotion.
Weeks 13–14: The capstone. Orla presented a data consolidation strategy to a panel of three industry reviewers. She received a distinction and was invited to present a condensed version at her company's quarterly leadership meeting.
Three weeks after completing the programme, Orla's employer created a new role — Senior Data Strategist — and offered it to her. The salary represented a 38% increase. More importantly, she now leads a cross-functional team of four and reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

Apply for Cohort 11Every programme at Course Knowledge Network follows a methodology we call Structured Immersion. It rests on three design principles:
| Principle | What It Means in Practice |
|---|---|
| Cohort Pacing | All participants move through material on the same weekly schedule. No one falls behind invisibly. |
| Applied Deliverables | Every module ends with a graded deliverable that mirrors a real workplace task, not a multiple-choice quiz. |
| External Validation | Capstone projects are reviewed by practitioners outside CKN, ensuring the credential carries weight beyond our walls. |
Structured immersion programmes for professionals who need outcomes, not just content.
